Welcome to our Lunch & Learn sessions: These 1 hour sessions are combined with networking and a light lunch, and are designed around key learning outcomes to help your business grow.

Presented by RBC, our first seminar is all about "Understanding Business Financials" with Ryan Calder, CPA, CA, of MNP. In this session, you will learn about:

• Balance sheet basics – leverage, liquidity, equity vs. debt
• Income statement basics – gross margin, profit margin, expenses
• Cash flow statements and the difference between those and income statements
• Common profitability / liquidity / turnover ratios that are looked at by lenders or investors and what they mean

Ryan Calder Bio:

Ryan Calder, CPA, CA, is a Partner with MNP’s Assurance Services group in Abbotsford. Ryan delivers a full suite of audit, assurance and accounting services to help owner-managed businesses maximize returns.

Ryan has more than a decade of experience working with organizations of all sizes in a wide variety of industries, including real estate and construction, manufacturing, wholesaling and distribution, oil and gas, automotive and consulting. He develops trusting one-on-one relationships with clients so he understands their challenges and can find solutions that will help them achieve their unique goals.

Ryan’s services include audits, reviews and compilations, as well as yearend corporate and personal tax planning. He also provides guidance on improving internal controls and advises on all business issues. Ryan takes pride in the fact that he is one of the first people his clients call when an issue arises.

In 2003, Ryan received a Bachelor of Commerce degree, with Distinction, from the University of Victoria. He holds the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Accountant (CA) designations, qualifying in 2006. Ryan has been involved with Scouts Canada as a troop leader and company advisor for a decade.
